AppleTalk for Windows XP, Windows Vista & Windows 2008 Server
Group Logic’s AppleTalk protocol is now compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008.
Beginning with ExtremeZ-IP File and Print Server 5.3, Group Logic’s AppleTalk protocol is included for optional installation with all versions of ExtremeZ-IP. For installation instructions, please see the documentation in the “AppleTalk” directory located in your ExtremeZ-IP program directory. Typically located at: C:\Program Files\Group Logic\ExtremeZ-IP\AppleTalk\
Group Logic also offers the AppleTalk protocol bundled with OEM versions of our Macintosh file and print server solutions, ExtremeZ-IP File Server and ExtremeZ-IP Print Server.
For the desktop versions of Windows, these solutions fill the gap left by Microsoft’s removal of the AppleTalk protocol from the Windows XP Professional and Windows Vista Professional versions of the Windows operating system as explained here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305989
For the server versions of Windows, these solutions fill the gap left by Microsoft’s removal of the AppleTalk protocol and the entire Services for Macintosh (SFM) file server and Print Services for Macintosh (PSFM) print server solution from Windows 2008 Server formerly Windows Longhorn Server as explained at following URL. Note that the AppleTalk protocol is a component of the SFM suite. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/network/evaluate/new_network.mspx#EWDAG
Group Logic’s solution delivers the AppleTalk protocol, Bonjour discovery and other important cross platform features that make it invaluable for software vendors that need AppleTalk and Macintosh connectivity to Windows. ExtremeZ-IP is the only solution on the market that fully integrates both Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 with Windows file servers and print servers. ExtremeZ-IP provides all of the functionality that Mac users expect as well as integration to Windows technologies such as Active Directory.
