Description:

If the Fully Qualified Hostname (FQHN) works but the hostname fails, the following steps can be taken to corrrect the problem.

Open System Preferences > Network
Under Search Domains, add your domain name
Example: yourdomain.com
This will allow you to use the hostname instead of having to enter the fully qualified hostname.

Note: You can also use the Network Utility to troubleshoot DNS issues.
