Question:

Can I change the IP address of my Server while the ExtremeZ-IP Service is running?

Answer:

Changing the IP Address of a Server while the ExtremeZ-IP Service is running is not recommended as some customers have reported that CPU spikes occur until the ExtremeZ-IP Service is restarted.

The recommendation is to stop the ExtremeZ-IP Service from the Services Control Panel. After changing the IP Address you can restart the ExtremeZ-IP Service.

For Clusters:

  1. Take the ExtremeZ-IP Service instance(s) offline from within the Cluster Administrator.
  2. Edit dependencies (Network Name and IP) for the given instance(s) of ExtremeZ-IP.
  3. Bring the ExtremeZ-IP Service instance(s) back online.

For Multihomed Servers: If you specified the IP Address which ExtremeZ-IP uses via the registry key
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ExtremeZ-IP\Parameters4\NonRefreshable\IPAddress, you must:

  1. Stop the ExtremeZ-IP Service.
  2. Edit this key with the new IP Address.
  3. Restart the service.

Printer Behavior:

  • Printers built using the Zidgetâ„¢ will continue to work after changing the IP Address of your Print Server if they were created with a resolvable hostname.
  • Printers built using Bonjour discovery will continue to work after changing the IP Address of your Print Server if they were created with a resolvable hostname.
  • Printers built using Choose IP Print are created using an IP Address. Such printers will need to be recreated if the IP Address of the Print Server is changed.
