Question:

Does ExtremeZ-IP support connections over AppleTalk?

Answer:

ExtremeZ-IP File Services
ExtremeZ-IP does not allow connections over AppleTalk – only TCP/IP. Most of our customer desire the faster performance of TCP/IP, and also wish to limit the presence of the AppleTalk protocol on their network.

Although the connection will not be over AppleTalk, you can publish your ExtremeZ-IP File Server to appear in the Mac OS Chooser using AppleTalk. When the Macintosh tries to connect over AppleTalk, it will automatically redirect to a new TCP/IP connection without the user having to know the TCP/IP address of ExtremeZ-IP.

ExtremeZ-IP Print Server
With ExtremeZ-IP version 3.0 and later, the print server can accept print jobs via the AppleTalk protocol in addition TCP/IP.

ExtremeZ-IP Print Servers that appear in the Mac OS 9 Chooser will be printed to using AppleTalk. Print Servers that appear in the ExtremeZ-IP Choose IP Printer utility or in the Mac OS X Print Center will be printed to using TCP/IP.
